Just
Go For It – The Importance of Taking Risks

Has anyone ever told
you to “go for it,” but every nerve in your body opposes it? More than likely,
your response is, “Duh, who hasn’t?” I have these feelings continuously, and
fortunately for me, the instances that I gone through have become fruitful. So
here is why taking risks is better than not taking risks.
1. There is a lesson to be learned: I know people say this all the time, but it is true! By taking risks, you can discover new ways to overcome obstacles.
A
common resolution for a new year is to try something new or different. On the
HGTV show, Property Brothers, couples take a risk take on a renovation. The
couples learn about making design decisions as well as how to maintain their
new homes.
2. If it doesn't work out, there is another opportunity waiting to happen: This is such a cliche, but it happens. Sometimes a failure really is a blessing in disguise.
During
my first year of college, I applied for a spot on my school’s broadcasting team
that reported on the different teams. I did not make the cut. This affected me
to the extent that I doubted my choice in major.
A
few months later, I joined a club that gave me amazing opportunities. I
represented my school at club’s national convention. So my failure with the broadcasting team led
to my success with the new club.
3. You learn about yourself. Taking risks allows you to stretch your limits and see what you can achieve.
When
you attempt something new and are successful, you know you are good at it. If
not, at least you know that you are not good at it.
If
you audition for a part in a choir and do not make the cut, then you know that
you probably are not a good singer.
